More About Us

Who we are

Formed in 1995, the Asian Pacific Interest Section (APIS) of the State Bar of Texas was created to be a state-wide umbrella organization to advocate and promote the common professional interests of lawyers of and interested in Asian Pacific American heritage, community, and culture.

What we do

Mission Statement: To advocate the common professional interests of lawyers of Asian-Pacific Islander heritage in Texas and those lawyers having an interest in the affairs of the Asian community and the law of countries on the Pacific Rim. In addition, the Section seeks to utilize the legal skills of its members to promote Asian interests and concerns in both public and private forums throughout the State of Texas. The Section strives to address Texas Asian legal concerns in order to heighten public awareness of how such legal issues can affect every facet of life in Texas.

Why we do it

We are a close community and look forward to seeing it grow! Feel free to email the Chair with any questions you might have. We also like to highlight featured members and honor the Justice David Wellington Chew Award to those whose selfless contributions benefit the Asian Pacific American legal community of Texas.

Save the Date!

Our annual APIS Conference will take place on April 8-9, 2016 in Austin, Texas at the Westin Downtown Downtown Hotel. This year’s theme is “Discovering New Heights,” where we will look at topics that relate to growth and innovation. We will offer CLEs and discussions that will assist you in enriching your skills and the way you practice.

Event programming includes outstanding CLEs, as well as networking opportunities for sponsors and attendees. We will also be recognizing the achievements of our members by awarding a Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award, an Affiliate of the Year Award, a Champion of Diversity Award, an Outstanding Mentor Award, and a Best Under 40 Award. In addition, the annual Justice David Wellington Chew Award will be presented at the retreat to an exceptional individual who has significantly contributed to the APA community in Texas.

Also, please consider becoming a sponsor, which provides benefits such as recognition in the Texas Bar Journal, the APIS list serve, and the APIS website.

Additionally, your company’s logo will be displayed on slide shows, display boards, and marketing materials throughout the event. Our sponsorship levels can be found on the sponsorship form, which is due by Friday, March 25, 2016.

The registration form will be available shortly.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and we look forward to seeing you in Austin!
